Ron Trent, Fedde Le Grand & Red Hot Annie…What More Could You Wish For?

These are the kind of nights that make living in Chicago so damn fine! Coz wherever you look there’s always something going down in a club near you that is too darn good to miss. This weekend is no exception, just take a look and you’ll see what we mean…

Thursday, December 9th

Chicago House Legend Ron Trent is at Crocodile Lounge tonight, and is not to be missed. Trent hit the dizzy heights of DJ fame with the release of techno-trance smash ‘Altered States’ while still a high schooler in 1990. This track is an absolute classic and has been rated one of the best techno grooves of all time. But far from being a one-off, Trent has continued to produce tracks of such quality it is hard to find one that is even a shade disappointing. Transcending soul, deep house, trance and electro too, Trent has become one of Chicago’s best-loved DJs, always innovative, always searching for new areas and sounds to re-invent with, Trent’s remixes and original creations are deliciously unique. He’ll take sounds and instruments from anywhere, say Rock and African percussion, and then forge a beautifully laid back Lovers Rock tune, or just go all out for stomping beats, and electro, which are always catchy, and attention-grabbing. Although he is back in his native city tonight, Trent has been much loved in other US states and forged some memorable collaborations with Detroit and New York colleagues, such as Chez Damier and Anthony Nicholson respectively, and was a founder of the Urban Sound Gallery. A consumate artist in his own right, Trent simply oozes class everywhere he goes, and in everything he does. He is ably supported tonight by Leonard Part 6, Diz, Jevon Jackson, and Lee Collins. $7, ladies free. From 10pm, west Van Buren Street. http://www.myspace.com/rontrent

Friday, December 10th

Described as being “on the edge of global stardom,” DJ/Producer Fedde Le Grand looks set to be making that declaration all so real as he continues to create club tsunamis wherever he goes with his smooth, ultra modern electro tinged with a dirty underground vibe that is getting everyone down and grimey. Following in the wake of 2006’s megasmash ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’ which was No. 1 in the UK, Spain, Russia, Finland and Bulgaria, Fedde has continued to produce worldwide hits, is packing out arenas with his live gigs, and been featured in a number of A list collaborations with the likes of Madonna and Will.i.Am. His first album ‘Output’ was released last year to huge acclaim. But it’s not all down to his major breakthrorugh in 2006, because Fedde Le Grand has been rocking clubs in his native Netherlands since 2001, and even has his own club Snearkz. Fedde is at Sound Bar tonight to show us what all the fuss is about – but just one listen to his myspace page will give you pretty good idea. $20 gets you in, less with RSVP at sound-bar.com. From 10pm, west Ontario Street…for a night of sheer dance club heaven. http://www.myspace.com/djfeddelegrand

Saturday, December 11th

Now, we all love a bit of burlesque, don’t we? Who doesn’t? So it goes without saying that there’s going to be a bit of a clamor trying to get into Spy Bar this evening when people realize Red Hot Annie will be performing her popular, and smoochie-sexy routine as part of the club’s Spywear Launch Party. The main focus of the shindig is aimed at marking and celebrating the club’s new clothing line, but all eyes no doubt will be drawn towards Annie at the appropriate moment as she starts to clothes off! But then that’s all part of the attraction of this party because not only will there be some steamy stripping, but some damn fine DJs too in the form of Chicago’s own Inphinity and Detroit’s Kalendr who have collaborated on a number of classic remixes and are guaranteed to keep the party swinging magnificently throughout the night. DJ Kalendr’s appearance is all the more apt as Spy Bar will also be revealing its’ 2011 burlesque-themed calendar (another reason why Annie is here too of course!) And Inphinity will be keeping everything suitably raunchy with his burgeoning talents for dirty house, which just get better and better.  $20 gets you in for a 10pm start in north Franklin Street….and by the way, if you are one of the first 50 through the door, you will be in line for some great Spy Bar goodies. I know where I’m gonna be this weekend…
