Electric Eclectic!

After the zombies, vampires, draculas, and monster mash-ups of Halloween a sense of normality is restored to the clubs of Chicago this week…though the parties never stop swinging baby, as dance fever reaches fever pitch wherever you may happen to be!

It all starts tonight Wednesday, November 3rd with White Label Night at Rodan, and DJs Madrid, and Sadie Wood displaying their respective peacock feathers, and their impressive haul of 70s funk and soul. Free, from 10.30pm, north Milwaukee Avenue. Over at Danny’s Tavern, west Dickens Avenue, it’s gonna be jam-packed night of Sheer Magic with Dante Carfagna, Supreme Court, and pals armed with shed loads of funky, soulful 45s. Free, from 9pm.

Thursday, November 4th. For those who like their soulfunk ‘live’ can enjoy the two aspects of UK singer/songwriter/DJ supremo Simon Green, alias Bonobo. At Metro from 9pm he performs with his full touring band of keyboard, sax, strings, and multi-percussionists, before heading over to Smart Bar for an exquisitely compiled DJ set of jazzy soul and funk for true-dance lovers everywhere. It’s $16 at Metro, with Thunderball opening, and $10 at Smart Bar with local heroes Striz and Sativa providing the warm-up. Over at Crimson Lounge, the search is on for their Next Resident DJ, with Chicago’s Crossfader King’s Matt Roan having the casting vote once all the aspiring residents have showcased their selector skills. From 10pm, free.

It all gets a little electro freaky at LaSalle Power Co. on Friday, November 5th, when highly-acclaimed Kentucky-based Chaotic Good return to the Windy City with their bank of computers and 8ft tall dancing robot getting its freak on! Electro pop never sounded this good. Free, from 9pm, north LaSalle Boulevard, with Skyler Mendoza also providing some grooves. In contrast, over at Darkroom, it’s Bhangratheque night with DJ Jimmy Singh, and Good For Party and their monthly offering of worldly rhythms, heavy bhangra, and lashings of Bollywood. $10 after 11pm, $5 before with RSVP to bhangratheque.com/rsvp.htm. From 9pm, with Diwali dance lessons early doors.

Saturday, November 6th sees Chicago house legend Mark Farina join forces with city favorites Diz and John Simmonds at Smart Bar for a clubland feast of deep-house to mark the latest release of Farina’s Mushroom Jazz series. Famous for his sounds when Derrick Carter and Cajmere were at the forefront of the house scene in the 90s, this is an evening not to be missed. From 10pm, north Clark Street. $20, $15 before midnight.

On Sunday, November 7th at Skylark, south Halsted Street, it’s Sunday Spank night with DJs Josh Deep, Sol Son, and Gogo, and a rush of disco, soul, funk, boogie, and afro rhythms. The perfect way to end the week! Free, from 9pm.
