The hip-hop party is massive at Congress Theater tonight, with an all-star DJ lineup keeping the air pumped, and primed with all the latest mixes. The 10-man band of brothers making up the South Side Crew, will be joined by DJ Sega (from Philly), and Boi Jeanius (of Kiss FM), as well as members of the Ghetto Division for a night of top-volume cranking. Or maybe you would rather get down and dirty with resident hosts Merk 1 and Intel, who will be conuring their own very special blend of indie hip-hop, soul, and downtempo during their Dirty Social night. This is a special monthly event and promises to be just that – special! It all kicks off at the Butterfly Social Club, on west Grand Avenue for free.

Sunday, June 20th

Possibly the highlight of the weekend – depending on your musical tastes of course!? But for those of you who fancy some solid gold rap, the place to be is The Shrine on Wabash Avenue. Why? Because non other than the legendary NELLY will be perfoming live, that’s why. Vibe Magazine, along with Rubyhornet.com and Million Dollar Mano, are hosting ‘A Black Affair’, a top night of “legendary lyrics and bold flavors” to celebrate 10 years of Nelly on the music scene. $20 gets you in for a 9pm start, and a 2am finish. DJs Million Dollar Mano and RTC provide the support. You have to be 21 and over – and the hosts suggest black attire to suit the theme. http://www.theshrinechicago.com
